WELCOME TO DREAMWEARCLUB'S HOMEPAGESDreamwear Club (DwC) is a registered transvestite-association whose goal is to help Finnish transvestites and their significant others to blend into the society. DwC arranges a variety of social happenings and get-together meetings. The association helps members to purchase clothes wigs and other feminine accessories by recommending establishments that take transvestites positively. DwC publishes a newsletter four times in a year, which discusses issues related to transvestism and which acts as a link towards the members. Dreamwear Club was founded in connection to the 1996 trans-Helsinki event. DwC is an association registered by the Finnish Ministry of Justice since 1997. The same year DwC became a member of the SETA (Sexual equality) umbrella of associations DwC's origins are in Joensuu, a small city in the Eastern part of Finland, where Pirjo and Helga where the mothers of DwC. They had made first contacts to trans-sisters already in the 1980's. The actual beginning of the association's activity was in 1991 when they organized the first meetings and weekend retreats with other transvestites. Since then DwC's scope of acitivities has broadend, for example taking part to Eurofantasia events in 1993 and 1994. DwC has also actively participated in arranging the Trans-Helsinki event, has worked in close co-operation with the SETA's Transgender place since its foundation, and maintained contacts to international transgender associations. The association has also initiated research within the social and health organisations in Finland to increase knowledge and awareness of transvestism in our society. Members of the DwC have been featured in a positive sense in several articles in the Finnish mainstream press. We believe that information expells ingnorance and are willing to show a positive example, with photos! October 1997 saw the first "-vestite" evenings at SETA's TransSupportCenter in Helsinki. These are a monthly (the second monday and fourth tuesday of every month at 19 o'clock.) support group meetings for transvestites and their spouses. In these meetings we have enjoyed a good and warm atmosphere, which we hope will continue to flourish. DwC people frequent also coffee- evenings arranged for all types of transgender people every Thursday by the SETA's Transsupport Center. We have also the teleophone service to help our relatives (wifes, children, parents etc.) and friends. This service is composed of transvestites spouses and everyone can take contact with full confidence to us. The actual time of phone answering is once in a week..
